Does acupuncture hurt?

Sometimes there will be prick felt as the needle is being inserted followed by a feeling of heaviness, pressure around the needle. The dull pressure or tingling around the area during the session is a normal part of the acupuncture treatment. Most people are amazed by how relaxed they feel during and after the treatment. This can only occur if the treatment is comfortable and gentle.

Is acupuncture safe?

As long as it is performed by a competent practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe. Acupuncturists are required to use disposable needles that are discarded after one use. 

Does insurance cover acupuncture?

I do not take insurance. If you do have coverage, I am happy to give you a superbill for reimbursed from your insurance company. Remember you can get reimbursed for treatments from a flexible spending fund or deducted off your taxes under out of pocket medical expenses.

How many treatments will I need?

This is depends on the individual and illness. For most chronic conditions, 9 to 10 treatments on a weekly basis tend to offer the best outcome. Some people notice an immediate improvement in their health while for others acupuncture tends to have a cumulative effect over several visits.

Does the clinic offer Chinese herbs? If so, what kind?

Yes, I can prescribe a variety of Chinese herbal formats; customized raw herbal formulas, customized herbal powdered blends or patent formulas (prefabricate pills).

Can you combine different therapies with acupuncture?

Yes. Since acupuncture has no side effects, it can work with other therapies and provide a synergistic effect. Many clients find a mixture of complementary therapies (chiropractic, massage and nutrition) or Western therapies (medications and specialized care) will give them the best outcomes.

What are acupuncture needles like?

Unlike the needles at the doctor’s office, acupuncture needles are extremely thin and solid. As seen in the picture, acupuncture needles are only slightly thicker than a single strand of human hair. The thinness makes acupuncture needles painless upon insertion.
